Does anybody have experience with Trim Tabs on a 21ft NR Ranger. I was thinking of installing them to help the boat flatten out and stay on plane at lower speed so that I could make wake boarding possible for my son.
It is currently very difficult to maintain plane at approx. 20 MPH.
Thanks for the input...

While I don't have a NR I do have trim tabs on my 22' jet boat. I love them. Really helps level the boat out and if it gets choppy I can push the bow down to smooth out the ride. Mine will not plane at 20mph but I never really tried to see if it would by running the tabs at full down. Guess I'll have to try it and see.
Trim tabs are one the best add on's there is IMO.
I have Bennett's with the dash mounted "joystick" .
I have a 20 ft Custom Weld Inboard with Trim Tabs. I also think trim tabs are a great option. :yay: I say go for it!

FiHuFun,
Is your boat an inboard or outboard jet?

I have a 20' Ranger and I inquired about trim tabs with the guys in Roseburg the other day. If you have welded on stand offs for transducers etc. they can get in the way. Also, if you have a swim deck it can obstruct the tabs. If you have an otherwise clear transom it would be a nice upgrade. The folks in the parts dept. at the Roseburg store were very helpful.

I have the Hamilton 212 with the full swim deck. It has the welded on brackets and I was concerned they may have to work around those...if it improves the performance I would consider the work.
It sounds like nobody has added the tabs for direct input.
I really appreciate the input from everyone!

I have done tons of research, considering adding trim tabs to our 21' NR, and I think there are more pros than cons.
The standoffs (where transducers and zincs are mounted) would have to be removed, and larger ones would have to be installed...not really that big of a job.(*there is a different mounting option, which would attach to your NR Trim lip, but the problem is, the NR do not have enough lip for attachment, hence, you will probably have to use the standoffs.) Make sure that the Trim Tabs default up when the powers off, this way they are out of the way for back down the boat ramp.
I also looked into the double ram set up, and found out that although it looks cool, and they appear stronger, the tabs operate at 1/2 the speed, because of the loss in hydraulic delivery.
Finally, go with the Tabs that have an up turn, rather than the flat or down turned model, 12" minimum, 16" would even be better. The Bennetts are 9" deep, which should not give you any concern with your swim platform.
Good luck and let me know if you get them.

I have them and love it...it is amazing how much smoother the ride is when you can get the bow down into the chop...
They also eliminate any porpoising that the boat may want to do.
If you get them, I highly recommend getting the new trimdicators so you can tell at a glance where your tabs are...

Jimh,
What size and type did you put on your CW? I have a 21' Storm and have been thinking about some for it.

They are Bennett trim tabs installed at Custom Weld. I'm not sure exactly the size since the boat is at the storage lot. I'd just give Custom Weld a call and see what they recommend for your boat.
