Periodically, as I'm driving to clients' facilities, I listen to The Fish radio station. Several times now, I've heard them advertise for the Blazers Faith and Family night. Forgive me if I'm overly sensitive here, but I find this new attempt at repairing the image of the Blazers to be feable and exploitative of the Christian community. Further, I find it a bit disturbing that The Fish, a Christian radio station not only endorses this, but is also an active participant.
I find nothing redeeming about this attempt to generate ticket sales, especially with the Christian community in their marketing crosshairs. :hoboy:
Anyone else care to share? Maybe I've missed something, as I've been intentionally avoiding media coverage of the Jail Blazers.

So are we to judge the hearts of ALL the players, coaches, trainers, etc on the actions of a few of the players? Isn't that in of itself against Christian teachings? Further, aren't we taught to seek out the sinners, not the fellow Christians in life in an effort of turning their hearts?
Sure, its easy to criticize the Blazers as sports team...but realize that the actions of a few should not drive the perception of all.
Carry on brothers. :flowered:

CT - I agree. However, there is a line between seeking out the sinner and supporting the sin. I am not judging the hearts of the individual players. I am merely questioning the motives of the organization, which I feel is my Christian responsibility, if I am going to support an organization financially or otherwise. To me, it's a merely a marketing ploy designed to get back into the good graces of the community to increase ticket sales. And The Fish has fallen for it.
The only reason I bring this up is because I've had direct dealings with the radio station in the past that has lead me to believe that they are more motivated by financial gain than by reaching people. Despite this, one could argue that God meets us where we are - and sometimes where we are can be a very dark place. But will The Fish really be ministering to players or fans? Or will they just have a table, giving out bumper stickers, T-Shirts and CDs? Do they provide counseling staff at these events? Most likely not - I haven't seen it yet.

I generally agree. It would be better if the organization made a push for Family/Faith night while ALSO pushing the team to get their acts together, weeding out the problem areas, etc.
In the meantime, we can all just support Christ and the Cowboys.

faeu pa (sorry my french stinks). Weeding? Blazers have that exact problem.
My point was with the Zachius comment was pretty much in line with what you said CT. God loves even the sinner but hates the sin. As for any quality good person types on the Blazers can you actually name one right now? I can't honestly do so.
As for the merchandising aspect, this concept has been around for thousands of years. Money changers in the temple, the selling of sacrificial lambs in the courtyards and so on....
about six years ago we had a church night out at the blazer game were about 45 of us got together and sat in the nose bleed section during a laker game. The CHristian fellowship was great and we had lots of fun that evening. In reality I kind of like the idea that the blazers are reaching out/or at least trying to reach out to family and church groups. Not many organizations do this in todays worldly ways. Hopefully that night they will not have Darcell sing the national anthem.

Sometimes I get so uptight about what I think is right. I don't go to Blazer games and think they are a horrible organization right now. Having a Christian night at a game with a Christian concert at the end at first brings out the skeptic in me. I have to remember that it takes all types to make the world turn and that God works in ways we don't always understand. Maybe someone in that crowd found the Lord the other night, just my .02 on the subject.

I agree. The last time I remember liking the jailblazers was when Clyde the glyde was playing. I won't pay for or support someones drug habit/s. The Blazer organization wanted a "Bad boys of the NBA" look and that's what they got. Only it cost them fans, money, and a championship team. I say GO GOD!!!! May the Blazers RIP.
