Does anyone know if I could put my boat numbers on the port and starboard side windows of my boat or do they have to on the hull itself? The upper half of my hull is covered with a bed liner product and stickers will not stick to it.

My read of the Oregon State Marine Board description indicates that it merely needs to be "easily read".

It says Forward 1/2... I have mine on my windows as well.

I havent had any issues in 3 years...I believe its easier to read anyway.

Just make sure you get the proper spacing between the tag and numbers.

After 8 years with my numbers spaced "too close", I was informed by the sheriffs patrol at the LePage ramp on the John Day this fall, that I was in violation. The nice fellas were just dying to find something, bored to death at their station, although they still gave me my inspected decal and dog biscuit.

As a rule, I wouldnt recommend any decals on your windows. You want the clearest view as possible thru the glass on a forward helm jet boat, particularly if you run skinny water.

I had always understood that the numbers were to be on the forward 1/3 of the hull. But it is very true that some law enforcement officials take the regulations to heart when they have nothing better to do. I was given a warning 3 years ago for having numbers that were not "contrasting to the color of the boat." The boat is a 1998 model that had the numbers professionally installed by a company that did numbers, and they had been on the boat for 4 years at that time. And I spend a lot of time in locations where there are lots of boats and enforcement types. So, it is probably best to be sqeeky clean in your placement - if it is not clear in the regs (which it is not), call the Marine Board!
