I am looking at some 16-17 ft flatbottom sleds. I am looking more specificially at either northriver flat bottom or the koffler lite sled. Does anyone have experience with either brands or have a personal preferance?
I prefer the Koffler if you are talking about their lite model, and I'd also get oars.

Steven Marine in Tigard has a older Northriver flattie for sale.
I have an 18' alumaweld flatbottom which I really like. They also make 16 footers and they pop up for sale once in a while. It can do just about anything from the columbia to the clackamas.
I wanted a flat boat and spent a few months locating and looking at them.
Good luck.

Opinion: You live close to the salt , get a boat that will get you out into the blue ,,AS WELL as the river.
You expand you options so much .... I just cant imagine anyone who likes to fish and not ending up wanting to play out there. id. p.

I bought a new NR 17'6" flatbottom last year. 90/60 Yamaha OB Jet. 2 seats on boxes - 1 removable seat. Oar locks up front. The boat is excellent in the rivers, does OK in the Delta and the open platform is really easy to fish from. With the flat bottom you can go into areas that you just can not believe. If it does not have stuff sticking out of it, you can probably clean it. Also, if you do get stuck you get out and push it off. Can't do that with a bigger, heavier boat.
The ride is OK. There is enough mass that you can plow through most of the small stuff. The bigger chop can get old after a while but I have never really thought it was terrible. The flat bow makes some noise if you are sitting still and there is a chop. It slaps the bow and if you are trying to be really quiet it is noticeable.
Really fast turns are out. I guess there is a tendancy for the hull to slide and then grab the outside rail sending everything out the high side. Be careful.
I would be glad to send pictures or answer other questions.
Happy hunting,
MW
