Started out friday evening going to the airport to pick up Gary Dobyns. Of course I am stuck in traffic, my cell phone rings, its Gary saying im here. I finally make it there a half hour late ( thankfully Gary is a easy going guy). We head for Canby, more traffic, and make it to the fairgrounds. Meat up with Jim and Orville, get settled in and then head to our motel. We get our 6:00 am wake up call so Gary can do a phone interview with Jack on KOTK radio at 6:30. Then shower, breakfast and head for the jamboree.
I am amazed at the amount of people already there when we arrive. Lots of smiling faces and and freindly greetings. I start looking at all the great things there are to see. I drool all over the boats that are outside ( sorry about that to All Marine and Nixons Marine). I then settle in to the Rolls battery booth and go to work. Everybody there at one point in time during the day stops by and say's hello. It was great talking with everyone. I finally got to meet lightline and enjoyed talking with him, a super person to say the least. I sneak away to load up on some needed tackle and spend more money than I should (just doing my part to support the industry). I am still amazed at the amount of people there. Our sport is definetly growing here in the N.W. Its now 2:30 and its time for Gary's seminar, the area empties so I sneak down stairs to listen. It was great, 2 hours of good info I know everyone could apply to many of our home waters.
Finally it's getting late and everything starts to wind down. We tear down the booth and say goodbye to all of our new and old freinds. I drop Gary off at the airport and point my old truck towards home.
All in all it was a great way to spend a Saturday. I love the jamboree every year, it gets me in the right mindset for the upcoming spring. Now all I can think about are smallmouth on the river. Spring cant get here soon enough for this old river rat. :depressed:
Untill then I will have to go to the coast and beat up on some steelhead. Good fishing everyone, I will see you on the river soon. rebell
