Just was checking the board again and it looks like no one is out there fishing much for warmwater. But then again when I was on the Willamette this weekend (fri & sun) I only saw three boats total fishing for the little bronze beautys. Fishing is still good with lots of fish still bitting. I can still get a crankbait bite going but it isn't great but the size seems better and mornings are the best. As far as plastics, they're hitting them good all day. Water has dropped about five degrees from last week and from friday to sunday the current has really increased. But all is good and it's fun. Am hoping that no "big" rains come before thanksgivin. The second Saturday of October is one of my favorite days of the year because I know I'll get up near dawn to find some smallies that are grouping, hassle them untill around 10,11 am, then go ambush some chukar that start to come down for water at that time. This year I had my limit of birds in less than three hours. The last three came on a "triple"; the ground was so steep (Hell's Canyon) that all three rolled into the water; didn't even have to leave the boat. An afternoon nap while basking in the warm sunshine followed by batter-dipped fillet of bass and chukar breast deepfried in bacon drippings...Oh!, but life is good!

Wannabe, Folks may not be pursuing the bronzebacks too heavily on the River, but they sure are on the Lake! Went To Hagg Lake Sunday anticipating having some peace and quiet with my fishing. Wrong.... More fishing boats on the lake that day than Ive seen all summer. People are probably looking for those smallies to go on their fall feeding frenzy. We did OK on sunday but hoped it would have been better. Blue Gill biting like crazy. Pearch very reserved. Crappie coming on but not like expected.

Fishin has been just awesome...I mean I only seen three boats fishing in two days on the water!!!! Annnnnd I bet we averaged over 50 fish a day. Nothing huge but a pound to three. I only get to get out one more time before next month so hope the biggy rains don't come till Thanksgiving. Would like to hit-em till December. It's neat too, most people are releasing the good ones. Tight Lines.

I have a driftboat with no motor. Is there some place within an easy row close to PDX? Not a secert spot just a general area:-)

If you put in at Willamette Park on Macadam, you can row accross river to Ross Island. I'm not a smallie fisherman, but I would imagine there would be some around there.

How much current is there along johns landing? Would it be better to be above the falls? if the fishing the same up there?

I went there to put my new drifter through a flat-water trial. It was 25 knot winds, and I rowed to the island and back with no problems.

But like I said, I don't know enough about smallmouth to comment on where is the best place to actually catch them.
