According to today's Eugene Register-Guard, the Oregon Bass & Panfish Club certified a new state record largemouth bass caught in July 2002 by Springfield angler Adam Hastings, 25.
The fish weighed 12 lbs., 1.6 oz. on a certified scale beating the previous record by 1/2 lb. The new record-size fish was 26 3/4 inches long, 22 1/4 in girth and was released back into the pond alive. Photos are posted on OBPC website. The fish was caught on a blue Senko worm in Ballanger Pond, 2 or 3 acres in extent, just east of Springfield.

The Board of Directors of OBPC recently certified a new state record largemouth bass. The bass was caught by B. Adam Hastings at Ballenger Pond in Springfield on July 6, 2002, weighed 12 lb. 1.6 oz,, measured 26 3/4" long with a girth of 22 1/4". The lure used was a Black/Blue Senko. The old record was 11 lb. 9.6 oz. and was caught in 1994. Congratulations Adam!

A guy here at work told me that he kept it in a big bucket, took it to a store to weigh it, then put it back in the pond. Very cool, if that's what happened.

The Eugene paper said the fish was put in a Tupperware container that was available, taken to the adjacent Albertson's (I think) & weighed on a certified scale. Then apparently photographed at Hastings' garage, then taken back to the nearby pond and released alive.

12 pounds of bass is a nice fish no matter where you go. The only problem is the wrong guy caught it. I thought I was suppose to catch it.... I guess maybe next time.
