Interested in trying my luck on some walleye fishing in the Boardman/Hermiston area. Anyone know of any good guides in that area for this species?

Check with high desert marine in Hermiston, Evan Davis was a guide who's caught and guided many to trophy fish. I don't know if he still guides or not. If not, go down and do as the locals do. Power troll up stream in the evenings straight across from the Umatilla marina up to the 395 bridge and than turn around and troll a worm harness behind a bottom walker down stream. These methods also work down stream about 1/2 mile at the mouth of the Umatilla river, also a chance to pick up a chinook. High desert has excellent selections and prices on all kinds of stick-bait type plugs, and they know what works- those girls fish

Hey chummer, I see you're from the great metropolis of Boring  mee, too. Are you into walleye fishing? I'm headed out in the morning below Bonneville for bugeyes or whatever else bites. I'll post a report.

Well, no fish for me Saturday. Got headed up the gorge and the east wind was howling early so I kept going all the way to Rufus (no wind there). Caught some nice smallies and a big perch but no walleye. Lots of Indian nets in the water. At the ramp saw 2 nice 48" sturgeon abandoned rotting in the sun. What a waste. Fish police also cleaning out some unattended nets....The gill netting practices upriver are crude to say the least. I wouldn't buy a fish from them if I was starving. :hoboy:

I was fishing below the ramp in rufus, mostly on the Washington side down to almost Maryhill. Had good action on the smallmouth along the rocky steep bank areas. Pulled worm harness down river, then back up river with deep diving (20') crankbaits about 1.5-2mph. I use my gas kicker plus my electric autopilot for upriver trolling. However, I was (and usually am) unsuccessful, so take my advice with a grain of salt. :depressed:

Fish Mojo,

Did you stay around Rufus or did you head downstream below Biggs. I was thinking about trying it in about 2 - 3 weeks and what techniques were you trying (Trolling, jigging, or worm harness).

Thanks

Fish Mojo,
I fish that area occasionally this time of year and pretty good success reversing your trolling pattern. I pull the worm harnesses upstream and crankbaits downstream. The cranks will dive much deeper going downstream than they will upstream.

What kind of crankbaits are you using? One of my favorites for up in that area is a Rock Walker.

The crankbaits diving deeper going down stream. I am curious how that is. I don't doubt you it just puzzles me.

I was using Mann's 20+ minnows and Luhr Jensen Power Dive Minnows (1/2 0z). I'll give your technique a shot next time. Thanks, Tanner. the worm harness I use has the mini hoochie with a spin n glo above it.
