Question for the Fly guys

How do yo attach the egg pattern behind your big black\purple hairy fly thing you guys use for steelhead? I want to do that to my jigs!

tie your line to the bend of the hook and then tie it to your egg pattern.

that, or tie it straight into the eye of the first fly, so the first fly has 2 knots in it.

I use a duncan loop knot to tie both flies with. I tie the dropper fly on the bend of the hook and if the fish hits the top fly and you dont land the fish the loop will only tighten down to the eye on the top fly, this way you will know which fly they are hitting. If they hit the bottom fly it will tighten down both loops. It also gives the flies better action. :cheers:

you should definitely do that behind your jigs.

I almost always tie mine to the hook bend and have had no problems catching fish on either fly.


One of the biggest problems I have found is that if a fish comes unbuttoned from the top fly the 2nd fly will snag the fish in the tail or otherwise...Some people would call that a problem, others would call it built in security. :laugh:
