On the rumor that E.C. had some fish I fished it Sunday morning till noon on the OFC stretch. Water looked almost perfect but I didn't see a fish. Got to play with my new lines though.

After I left Eagle Creek I drove up to Harriet Lake.

Anyone fish up there this time of year ???

It has potential. There was only one other boat. I used my pontoon boat. It was a Beautiful day to be on the water.
Water was perfectly clear. You could see all the beer cans and garbage on the bottom as clear as day. What a wonderful bunch of people that hang out there. Anyhow: What I am wondering is. There are browns in the lake. So how do you catch them with a flyrod ? Are they deep or are the on the surface ? I know some of them are up the creek spawning but certainly there are some in the lake as I saw the other boat bonk a couple they caught on hardware. I trolled a Seal bugger around for the longest time. I tried the surface and I tried deep. Got some really light bumps.

About 2:00 PM there was a bug hatch. The trout went nuts. I only managed to hook and land one planter but I could tell that some of the fish were bigger. It was hard getting close to the fish. They would boil for about a minute or two, just long enough to move next to them and make one cast.

All and all it was a fine day but very cold. I think next time I will take my full sink line and drag the bottom ??

Everyone I have talked to said the same thing, the Browns in Harriet lake are hard to catch.. Maybe till you figure em out....There must be some big fish in there ??

i do really well on Harriet in may and june when the green drakes come out. i have had wonderful days up there catching the browns on the surface. some of which were around 20+ inches. talk about explosive takes!!!

i have not tried to fish that lake this time of year because the water is sooo cold in the summer, i would be freezing this time of year.

did you try streamer patterns? i would see those as being the ones that would attracts them the most this time of year.

Well a Seal Bugger is kind of a Streamer.

So are the fish deep or Shallow. Are mixed in with the bows?
Does anyone know anything about these fish ? Are they all planted ? are they self sustainging Via the River ?

The water was cold but fishable. I liked because no people.
June and July is a mad house. Nice close in local, year round Still water. Worth the effort ?

I have been there a few times in august and september. Rowed out to one of the stumps sticking out near where the river flows into the lake. I think I ended up there the day after they dumped the planter truck, and couldn't keep a fly on the water long without hooking a fishstick. But I have seen some people land nice browns in this manner. This time of year, subsurface would seem logical. You might want to figure out where the warmest water in the lake is right now. Deep, shallow, dam end, or stream end? Browns like warm(er) water.

i would fish shallow this time of year. i figure if the water is going to warm up at all, the shallow water would be the first place to do so.

all i know about these fish are they smash flies on the surface and fight like H**L!!!

if i'm not mistaken, they were planted in the lake long ago and are self sustaining- spawning in the creek.

any type of fishing is worth the effort!!!

And that is a bad thing some times the planted are fun when you are catching them by the hundreds. Last year I was up there is sep. and they dropped a load of fish in the water and it was a long after noon of practicing catching fish on the fly.

Ohh and as for the browns this time of year find the sun shine they are looking for warm water. Also if you launch the toon at the second ramp the one right off the road you can see a little cove were a creek pours into the lake. I have seen a guy over there in the toon nail three big browns over there. I am bank bound so I have never made it over there. One of these days when someone wants to launch there boat and row around the lake with a fat guy in it I will get over there. BOB? rp

i've caught quite a few out of there with a big ol' bright wooly bugger with a nymph trailing behind it a few feet.
