Today I was lucky enough to fish the Clack, and was able to FINALLY catch a fish. It was a beautiful lightly colored summer steelhead that took my hand tied egg imitation. Although it took me a while it was well worth it. Now I get to see what a steelhead (and success) tastes like.

Trying to get the photos upload. I went McIver, but it was a hike to where I went, tried Eagle Creek and didn't see anything.

Can anyone figure why its max is missing? Looks like it happened a while ago?

By "max" I assume you mean the dorsal fin? If so, I have found that to be relatively common with hatchery fish. I asked a hatchery empolyee about that in the past and was told that hatchery fish will wear off (or down) their dorsal fin in the concrete hatchery ponds.

Or it has a maxillary clip?

The maxilary is missing, but I can't understand why it would be clipped. Everyone is convinced it is a summer fish (as well as myself).

I've posted this a few times over the last couple years. Here you go.

This is for the Clackamas / Eagle Creek

Winter Steelhead

Big Creek stock - adipose & right max clipped
Clackamas stock - adipose & left max clipped
Eagle Creek stock - adipose & right vent

Summer Steelhead - adipose clip only

The Eagle Creek hatchery does not have a summer steelhead program. Therefore, any hatchery summer steelhead on the Clack should be a Clackamas stock summer steelhead.

I hope this helps. Call me if you have questions or ever want to fish down there. I lived on Springwater Rd next to the park for over 23 yrs. Grew up there and guided there.

Most people think that catching your first Steelhead is a GOOD thing. It is not. It simply begins a lifelong insatiable addiction that keeps getting worse and worse until finally your life is spent, and the final years are consumed with endless lies about the big ones that got away. You do yourself a favor to get into a good 12 step program right now before you're in too deep.
