I havent been to Crane this winter, but is it open for BASS fishing right now as in open water? I dont know anything about winter bass fishing but was just wondering when the lake is good again for fishing.

Thanks guys

I lived in Bend for Ten years. I'm not sure about this year, but usually at this time of year, the roads are snowed in and there is no access to the lake. Also the lake usually freezes over. It's altitude is 4600 feet.

The lake is closed until the high lakes reopen for trout fishing in the spring. Winter bass fishing can be fair on other lakes in the winter with proper timing. But I'm after Chromer winter steelhead now. :smash: :yay:

Hey man if you are looking to get out, I just got a report from a buddy of mine who was out on Sunday in the Newberg area of the Willamette and they said they did catch a buckmouth about 3 pounds :bigshock: :bigshock:. Only one fish for 3 hours of fishing, but it was still better than a sharp stick in the eye . I would forget about those high mountain lakes until the spring thaw. :smash: :smash: :smash:

Even if crain P. was open the lake will not give out any bass. The lake is too cold, shallow and clear for the bass to be active at this time of year. If you would like a real shot at landing a bass (now) you should try fishing some of the coastal lakes (they stay warmer through the winter). Or you could also fish for small mouth bass just past The Dallas dam. you can even catch them from shore now. The bass in the columbia will be in 35 - 65 feet of water. You are hard core man! I do not do alot of bass fishing this time of year. Good luck and let us all know how you do.

You could try trolling using a snow mobile to present a lighted Kwikfish-13 wired to the alternator to boost the amps which would melt the ice.
Sorry DA; couldn't resist...Merry Christmas.
