I fished all day today on the Clack with only one hook-up. The water I was fishing looked a lot better for people who fish gear or had a boat. Does anyone have any suggestions for where to fly fish the Clack and w/ what? You can PM me if you wish. Thanks for the help.

My best fly fishing for winter steelhead has been from upper McIver to Barton. There are three different drifts in this section: Upper McIver to Lower McIver; Lower McIver to Feldheimer; Feldheimer to Barton. Or you can do a combination.

They get a good run of spunky fish most years. If you are fishing from the bank you need the water to come down. McIver is your best bet. The wholes there are obvious...if the water is down. What to bring? It doesn't matter if the water is down. I reccommend a flyrod to offset the crowd.

Dis I say if the water is down?

Good luck.

I am going to give it a shot up there today, what flies would you reccommend? I have been hearing leeches and egg patterns smaller then a dime bigger then a pea.

I was there from 1-5 and didnt get a thing. I saw one fish, but I am going again tomorrow up by a creek not sure the name but its in mciver. You go by the hatchery, I heard there was a lot of people fishing there from the park ranger. Is that where you fished? You will see me if ya go tomorrow. I am a teenager(17) and a flyfisher. With a Loon vest on. Not many that look like me down there. I saw one guy the whole time. He was tossing plugs and a bobber I think.

Changed my mind and decided to go to McIver. I think I saw you but I can't be sure. It was up above Dog Creek. Did you get any? I didn't have much time to fish, and was out of luck!

That's amazingly stupid! Although I wouldn't be suprised it he caught an illegal steelhead. I took a little walk around the hatchery once I was done fishing. There are LOTS of steelhead in the creek. They can't get into the hatchery (must of already met its limit?). It was pitiful watching some of those steelhead trying to squeeze there way into the hatchery. Lots of injured fish most likely due to this. I just don't understand why they just wouldn't open up the creek! If they are done collecting fish and they are only hatchery fish there should be no harm. It seems as though it would be more harmful to the wild population if we were to let those steelhead spawn in the stream (saw a couple of steelhead that looked like they were preparing redds).

I think I saw you also, and am pretty sure we walked right by eachother on the path above the creek. I nodded my head also  Did you have a vest on? I was wearing a dark green g loomis hat.

I hooked one and got it to the bank but it got caught on some stupid persons fishing line in the rocks and pulled the fly out, and he was gone. Quick release! It was about 8 or 9lbs I am guestimating. Very pretty fish and a first steely for me. I was using a freight train and hooked it on my first cast. You know where that huge log is? The on the is fallen over hanging a little over the water above the creek? Thats where I hooked the fish.

That's awesome that you caught a steelie, no luck for me. Yah, it was above the creek. No I didn't have a vest on, just a jacket and a fanny pack (a lot less to carry than a vest, atleast for me). I think I'm going up there today, or maybe Eagle creek (just to scout it out w/ my GPS).

Can't remember, but I went back today and caught my first steelie, a nice hatchery, but not sure whether it is a summer or winter run.

Global -- Way to go on that first hook-up. That's awesome. On a frieght train! Now, you are the expert.. Keep at it.
