I fished Gnat Creek (Clatsop County) this morning. Quick summary: hooked two steelhead; landed one.
Both steelhead were hooked on yarn egg patterns. The first fish ran upstream and snagged the leader on a log, breaking off.
This is the second fish, a 26-inch hatchery male (this fish was released):

Gnat Creek is a nice place to fish for several reasons: You don’t need to be an experienced steelheader with specialized equipment to catch a steelhead on a fly. I used my nine-weight rod with a floating line, nine-foot leader and yarn egg imitations. I fished just like I would nymph for trout. If you know how to catch trout on a nymph, you can catch steelhead here!
Gnat Creek is also one of those bodies of water that drops quickly after rain, so it is ready to fish before other coastal tributaries.
