Congratulations on your fish, even if we don't have a photo!
Even in winter, steelhead will hit the fly hard on a swing, but not as hard as a summer fish.

Congrats on the fish! A native fish this early in the season, how sweet is that?
I would concur with Andy K. A certain SW WA river had several steelies that hit our swung flies yesterday, including one very willing, fat hatchery hen of about 13 pounds on the spey rod! If you pick the appropriate water to swing in (3-5 feet deep, or less in some instances) and have generally good conditions, even hatchery fish will be willing participants.
Keep the faith and good things will happen.

Phil, just keep the faith and stick with swinging the sink tip.
It's the only chance I'll have to beat you!

Way to go Phil! You certainly have those Winters dialed in. I'll have to head up there one of these days and try to maximze my yearly Washington license. I think I've only used it 3 times since last March
