Nice looking fish and thanks for the pic of the fly, it kind of looks like a scud only bigger, what size was it? and was it on a swing or dead drift.

That is stefans shrimp named after me! I sent it out last year as part of a fly swap don't tell too many people that it works please.

Anyways congrats on the beautiful catch. Those flies are soo easy to tie i.e. expendable. Thats what I like best.

beautifull fish, I really like the shrimp pattern, havent seen that one yet. Is the recipie for the fly available? I picked up three fish saturday but didnt realize the contest had started yet. I have a friend i was fishing with that has a very thin lightweight glove that is specially designed for handling fish you intend to release, it seems to work well, could have used it saturday. He found his in canada, I cant find them anywhere down here. Anyway sorry for getting off the subject. Nice work Chrome Mandinga.

Do you use the weight calculator ? And if so do you think it is very accurate? I have heard of two different numbers to divide by 1000 and 750. dont know which is right.

Good job CM! :applause:

And yes, lets hear some details like kind of water, presentation, and size of the fly. I promise I won't give you a hard time if you used and indicator!

Kodiakfisher, I really like that Stefan's shrimp. Do you have a recipe?

Nice fish, good job. That is a great looking fly, so lets hear a recipe for it. What did you use for a shellback on that shrimp pattern?

thanks all!

I tie a fly that is very similar to that pattern. That picture is of a fly i didnt tie, but looks almost exactly like my pattern.

Details:
Fly Size-12
method used to catch- dead drift with sinking line.
Water conditions- semi-clear water, mid to high 40's(didnt have a thermometer with me)
hooked in a long smooth run, maybe a tailout.

That shrimp pattern is one of my favorite to tie, it is so easy to tie. It is alot like tying a scud. I tie them from size 14-6. I will be sending my shrimp flies to those of you who signed up for the winter swap...

BTW, the last day to sign up is today!!!

((Girth x Girth) x Length) / 800 = weight in pounds
(girth and length are inches)

i think thts how it goes...

I used to go to a site that had an automatic calculator for fish weight, you would enter the length, girth and type of fish and it would kick back the weight.

Do I think it's accurate? I think its as accurate as you can get if you let a fish go...is it exact, absolutely not.

Although....IGFA will take a picture+original leader+length+girth as a world record submissoin.

I submitted a nook 2 years ago that I had released...They gladly took my $50 application fee and told me that a bigger one had just been caught.

Nice fish, good job. That is a great looking fly, so lets hear a recipe for it. What did you use for a shellback on that shrimp pattern?

I use 2 types of back...they sell the stretchy scud backs and they work well, and they are already the right width...

Here is a little secret for those of you who dont know it already...don't throw away your plastic bags that your materials come in...the plastic bags when cut into strips are the best shrimp backs...I almost always use plastic bag backs. I'm sure most of you already knew that. :hoboy:

I am at the Clackamas Library. Trust me.....

If I get caught on IFISH at work again I may have plenty of time to go fishing. Actually I found another work station with more privacy. This IFISH addiction is going to get me.
