So is it worth the effort to get started flyfishing the Westslope rivers for Salmon and Steelhead ?

What should expectations be about success ?

I have read here on IFISH from Stew that the rivers are too crowded. Sure ! if you are a weekend warrior but what about during the middle of the week ?

Too late now, I am hooked. :yay:

Anybody want to talk about it ?

Do any of you consistantly catch fish on a fly on this side of the Cascades ? As consistantly as say, A bait fisherman.

I keep hearing that Big patterns are a must on the Clack for Winter Steelhead.

Oh BTW I heard a rumor that a local guide landed a Twenty Six pound Steelhead near the mouth of the Clackamas. The salesman at Sportsmans warehouse told me this.

Is it true ?

The clack should be getting some fish as far as 26# I would have to see that. And yes the rivers on the West side get crowded in the summer but the winter time I have been fishing on the clack and sandy and they are not as bad as some people let on to be. The Coast Rivers seem to get more crowds then others but I do not fish them as much. Summer time is a different ball game. You have the fair weather fisherman and the sun worshipers on the rivers.
AS far a catch rate I am not the best person to ask about that I have gotten one steelhead on the fly and it was from eagle creek fishing a Marabou leach in Feb. it is cold and snowing and I was fishing Eagle Fern Park and did not see another fisherman all day. So bust out the fly rod and Go catch some steel. rp
