Hi
I need help in understanding the black box for down riggers. I don't know if this works or is just a wishful thinking toy. I am looking at an American Black Box, sportsmen's edition. IF they are useful? Do you need one for each down rigger? Do you have to purchase any other equipement to go along with the black box? Has anyone had experience with this or can lead me to a review link that isn't the products site.
Thanks for your time. Susan.. the christmas elf looking for the fishing gift.

They work but you can save money by adding zink to your hull untill your boat is running an electricial field between .6 and .7 volts.

I think if you go to SCOTTY DOWNRIGGERS site they have some info on blackboxes . You do need 1 blackbox per rigger and I would not fish without them!

Actually One black box will controll up to six downriggers.

How do you check the votage or amperage in the water like you were talking about.

Get a good volt meter that will read fractions of a volt. Drop downrigger down into the water and put neg (black) test lead onto your engine block and *** (red) lead on your downrigger cable. What you want is .6v.

Ive never been able to catch a fish on my downrigger.. Maybe it has to do with the Voltage thing..

I have a screw on transom downrigger for my Zodiac. Since i havent had luck with it, its been sitting in my garage collecting dust.

If you need to get your line down deep use a jetdiver or a bananna weight. Its what i do..

I read all teh info about the Black box. I was concerned that Id go out in my new boat and not be able to catch a thing. Didnt happen.
My Scotty's are fish catching machines. From the first day I used them I have done very well .
Its been the same wherever I go .
I guess I got lucky and have just the right charge going.
Wont change it till I stop catching fish. id. p.
