Marko,
A blade bait jigged close to bottom will put a hurt on the walleye right now. Add an eyeball to tine of front treble. It is the tine on the nearest the middle of the lure. That way when they go for the eyeball you can get a hook into them. Suffice to say they are near the bottom. Free spool till you feel bottom and then just do short jigging motions. When you feel weight, set hard.

Marko-
Typically the walleye fishing takes place in 15-25 feet. However, at a location I fish occasionally on the middle Columbia, I have done well in a spot that runs 45-48 feet. And yes, they are right on the bottom. Blades are a tough nugget to figure out the feel and I usually do fine with just a 3/4 ounce jig, green plastic tail and a hunk of crawler. Drag that mess along the bottom sort of like you were drift fishing for steelies. Only want to touch bottom about every 3 or 4 feet and always stay within an inch of it. Not too many fish, but usually a good one when they do hit.

As usual, releasing the big females after a picture is a good gesture.

How far up the river do you have to go to find walleye?

Marko,
I'm serious about the eyeball. Use the eyes from each walleye you catch. When I perch fish I use the perch eyes. They really key on those. They usually hold up for quite a few fish before it needs replacing. When I am on the perch, as fast as that blade bait touches bottom I am pulling up a perch or walleye. When the bite is slow I switch to a swedish pimple and barely make it quiver, almost deadsticking it. Spiny rays, Mmmmm!
I am cooking up a big batch at work today. My co-workers love me!
I am fishing 15-25 feet of water. Watch for concentrations of fish on depthfinder.

My roots being from Texas bass fishing, I have somewhat converted to steelhead/salmon here in the NW. I am still, and will always be known to divert back to bass/walleye at a moments notice. I really enjoy the variety of sport we have here. I've done well on Bugeye's with specific plugs in the summer, and fair with spinner rigs in the winter season. I have changed over from blade/spinners to small spin glows/spinner harness because I find that they don't seem to drag quite so bad in softer water/current seams that just fall off. Are you guys fishin the lower end-below the dam? You have my attention.

The Columbia River can be a tough nut
to crack for walleyes. They tend to
roam so much. I am kind of spoiled as
I like fishing lakes for them. I like
chasing perch more than walleyes as
they taste even better. The potholes
area near Othello is my stomping
ground. If those darn steelhead would
quit biting I would be depleting the
perch population!

I come from Californa and well my grandfather always told me stories of walleye fishing in the great lakes he grew up in michagan. Now i live in portland and have some awsome walleye waters around me. I have gotten a few off the bank up by castcade locks but have yet to have the real chance to fish them from a boat. one of thease day i will but till then it is bank fishing for me. Any way i have found out from the bank just a plain worm rig will catch waleye year round. I have been told a live minnow is the best bait you will ever get but sence you cant use live bait around hear i have had luck with the freeze dryed ones. My only problem i will be fishng for walleye and hook into smallmouth bass insted or i will be bass fishing and catch walleye any one else get this problem wile out.

I have a boat already outfitted for walleye fishing but need direction and a kick in the ass to go for those eyes. Hope everyone else is doing well on them and any advice for the what and where just might motivate me.

Chuck, I'll go with you on a trip up at Rufus if you want. I'll even split the gas with you. especially if you have all the tackle. Have you even gotten one of these yet.

My wife Debbie starts working at Fab-20 next week front half. you guys be nice to her. I need for her to start making lots of money quick so I can quit my job and just fish. Of course you don't have to tell her that.
Seriously give me a yell and we will set up a trip. Its relly not that far.
