Ok I started bass fishing about 10 years ago after my local rivers crapped out as far as steelheading goes so I think I might have some advice for thoes steelheaders who may be thinking about dabbeling in bass fishing.

First of all There are about a billion diffeent bass lures on this planet but until you begin to understand bass it's best to stay with the basics. Arguably one of the best bass baits ever invented is the spinnerbait. It is certainly one of the easiest bass baits to fish and will at times catch bass anywhere that bass live.
This makes a spinnerbait an excellent choice for the beginning bass fisherman.

Choosing a spinnerbait.
A spinnerbait is a lure made of wire bent at a 90degree angle. They generally are armed with a large single hook covered by a "skirt" made up of colored rubber legs. on the arm of the spinnerbait will be 1 or 2 blades usually either chrome or gold in color.
There are generally 3 colors I recommend for spinnerbaits I will list them in order of my preference. 1. white, 2 chartruse,2. black. blade style and color although sometimes important should be less of a concern for a new bass angler. I recommend starting with a double willow leaf or colorado pladed lure.
Spinnerbaits generally come in 3 sizes 3/8oz 1/2oz and3/4oz. for fishing here in the northwest I use 3/3 and 1/2 oz baits.

These spinnerbaits will be easy to fish with your medium action steelhead casting rods. Rods with limber tips are generally much better for keeping fish hooked up. The rods you use for pulling smaller plugs should be ideal. 15- 20 lb mono is advisable
Spinnerbaits can be fished in almost any situation and can be cast almost anywhere. They are best fished on or around structure and vegitation. they can be fished slowly in deep water or ripped across the surface of shallows.
If the water you are fishing has bass in it you will catch them on spinnerbaits at one time or another.
They may look big and gaudy compared to a sandshrimp and corkie but they work! Fish them with confidence thoes good old boys in the south know what they are doing...
Questions????
bass guys did I forget anything???

newbies - the best spinnerbait on the market that I've ever fished with is a Terminator spinnerbait. Just like on T.V. Ain't no sheeit.

You don't have to worry about it swimming true. Don't get the rainbow colored one though as that skirt sucks and the color choice is hella lame. Go with the charteuse one or the brown one with glitter.

They are very spendy and I'm not the biggest fan of spinnerbaits, but I swear by these spinnerbaits.
