89 Alumaweld Flat bottom 18 footer. Problem in slight chop boat motor tends to cavatate and seems not to recieve a constant flow of water needed to run the jet efficiantly.

I have one friend that says weld a 3/4 inch plate on the back of the shoe to ease this problem. It's a Mercury 150 jet pump around a 91 vintage. What do you think????

their are a couple things you could do they make an aluminum plate that attaches to the boat and sits just a hair above the front of the shoe the y other thing is to have your shoe fined and scooped they weld pieces on the left and right side of the shoe extending it by an inch or so and the scoop is at the back of the shoe and it runs the with of the shoe and is piece of half round stock all this causes your shoe to grab more water

Thanks. I am having some cracks welded up on my boat tomorrow that have been developing and thought this might be a good chance to see if what you suggested will work. A friend of mine suggested the same as you did here so I think I might try this.

Thanks for the tip.

Bernie...I had the same problem with my Fish Rite (200 Merc) when I bought it. I took it to Steenson up here in Vancouver (I lived up here at the time) and they did that exact thing as mentioned above. Sides, and rear. Cured the problem. Make sure they use heavy duty stuff, or when you scuff the rear part will go bye-bye. Rather inexpensive fix, too.

Good luck..
