I have an 1979 20 hp Mercury outboard that has a small oil leak at the spot indicated in the picture.

I change the gear oil often to be on the safe side and there is some water in the oil but not alot after about 3-4 hrs of run time.It does not leak very fast but it tends to leave a small oil slick behind me wich can't help the fishing any. I was just wondering if this a gasket or seal that I could easily replaced or if it a more complicated repair best left to the pros.

Thanks for your wisdom

probably a shiftshaft or driveshaft seal. you could probably see it if you removed lower unit. make sure you keep it full of oil until you get it fixed.
