When I pump some grease into my outboard jet pump after a day of fishing some droplets of water come out with the excess grease. Is this something to worry about like maybe a seal going out.

This is normal, thats why they recomend you pump fresh grease in after each use. The new grease forces out the water.

Heres a good question. i took my impeller off the other day and it looked like grease was leaking past the bottom seal. is this normal? After a day of use it takes about 3-4 pump for me to get grease to come out of the hose thingy. I haven't notice water coming out of the hose, but I have only used this motor 3 times and for only about an hour at most each time. I am new to jet pumps. I am also useing that mercury 4-2-4 grease to lube the bearing is that ok to use?

3-4 pumps seems excessive, and grease coming out of the seal isn't normal. You may have fish line in the seal or a seal that is otherwise damaged. The 2-4-c is ok but the lubriplate 630AA is ideal.

3-4 pumps is excessive??? I thought you were suppose to greese until no more water came out or you until you were getting clean greese?

Thanks Boatdoc

I will get the parts to replace the seal today. Any tips on replaceing the seals? i would assume its a kit I am getting to replace all the seals for $35. I have never done one of these before, but it looks pretty straight forward. I am actually more worried about being able to get the bolts out. Any parts going to come flying out or is it all put one part in after another easy stuff to do?

Thanks

3-4 pumps with nothing coming out means the grease has gone somewhere, 3-4 pumps with grease coming out in 1-2 pumps is normal. In my opinion anything less than a teaspoon of water is ok, any more than that should be addressed.

nothing will fly apart but do be careful removing the bolts, you may have to apply some heat to the bowl to avoid breaking them. Afte removing the snap ring from the carrier apply some heat where it is hot to the touch and tap the shaft on a peice of wood and it will slide off. Make sure the metal seal retaining rings only have one thickness were they pass the vent holes. Reassemble with never seize on all bolts.

As a quick update, I stalled on replacing the seals and just used the boat and started keeping track to see if the problem got worse. The problem fixed itself after two trips. Now I just need 1 pump eveytime. I am guessing the problem was associated with changing the water pump and wobbling the drive shaft, and adding a new wear ring. After pulling the impellor this last time I can see where the wear ring was not a perfect circle and the stainless impellor was rubbing near the top making it a perfect circle. I think that extra pressure on one side of the shaft and me wobbling the shaft around somehow allowed some grease to start slipping by the seals and it just took time to reseat. The only other I can think of is when I flushed on the hose I was using to much water pressure through that little hole.
