I have not had much time for fishing lately. On the one other time I went I had my car broken into. Last Sunday I had a couple of hours free and went to the upper Clackamas. (I left my car windows open and nothing in the car). I hiked to a favorite riffle, varying from about 1 1/2 to 4 feet deep. 8 wt sage, floating line, 12 foot fluorocarbon leader. Dead drifted an egg pattern. One take but I lost him. Dead drifted for another 20 minutes covering the riffle-nothing. Went to a wet fly swing. Tied on a yellow/orange/blue/purple fly my friend ties. First cast on the swing-took but lost him. Third cast-appx 10 lb ? (I'm not a good estimator of weight) hen-wild, photo and release. 2 more hits but lost them. Changed fly to a chartreuse hackle with backswept green wing. Caught an 8 lb hen. Hatchery, but also released (Actually, dropped). Also, caught 6 trout accidentally-rainbows, from 8 to 14 inches-all on a downstream swing! (All released unharmed). Usually I would have enjoyed the trout but they interfered with the steelhead fishing. I took pics but with a film camera so I have to get them developed. Two hours of my best steelhead fishing ever.

Woo Hoo! Sounds like an awesome trip. This cooler/wetter weather is really turning things on. I FINALLY scored on the North Umpqua, also last Sunday - lost the first one, landed the second (both swinging a GBS, nuthin' fancy). First 2 hookups ever down there, after a bunch of trips over the last 2-3 years.

Lilnorthfork,

Unfortunately, no, the item was never recovered. Good thing I learned my lesson and there was no "loaded item" in my car on the last break-in.

Geez ! You guys have me too scared to fish the Clackamas.

All the reports of thefts have kept me off the river. I want to drift it in my boat but who wants to get ripped off.
You must have been up high?

What can you tell me about my Cousin right now ? Steve Koler... Is he still in danger or are his chances getting
better ????

PM me if you want.

I got to catch a Salmon on a fly this year...........
