Coming home from a trip last weekend I hit a piece of metal in the road and had a blowout on my boat trailer tire. I got the lugnuts and tire off and my friend decided to put the spare and lug nuts back on while I was putting the flat in the back of my truck. Anyways,he ended up crossthreading one of the nuts and stripped out the stud,so we had to finish our trip with 4 out of 5 lugnuts in place.

I haven't had much time to check out the stud and am wondering how hard it is to replace one. Are the studs on a Rogue trailer installed with a hydraulic press or can I use a hammer to drive it out and drive the new one back in?

On another note....Does anyone here use grease on the lug nuts or studs? My friend told me the reason the nut got crossthreaded was because I didn't have any grease on the studs. I about crapped when he told me I should grease them. Greasing the studs sounds like an accident waiting to happen,I've never heard of anyone using grease on a lug nut before.

As a mechanic NEVER put grease on lug nuts. Easier was to back off. The stud id real easy to put in. Take the drum off knock it out with a hammer. If you have means to a 1/2" air gun put the new stud through the drum and get a larger nut (big enough so that it dont touch the stud) and thread the lug on the stud so that it just fits the larger nut. then tighten the lug down until you see the stud bottom out on the inside. While doing this process get some Gray Antisieze and put some around the stud and on the drum to prevent siezing of threads etc. Pretty easy process. If you need any help by phone pm me and I can also walk you through it. Hope that this works for you.

If you have the tools and time do it like the previous post. If not Les Schwab did one mine for $5 with a smile.
