My anecdotal experience has led me to feel more confident using a sinking line for sea runs when I am fishing those deep, slow, brush-lined pools on our coastal rivers. I have never done a rigorous side-by-side comparison, but just have a gut feeling about it after using both kinds of lines. Anyone have experiences or opinions on the subject?

I do enjoy floating lines because you can usually see your fly and can watch the show as a sea run comes racing across the pool, takes 2-3 wild passes at the fly before it finally nails it. It is hard to maintain a slow retrieve of the fly when that is happening!

Also, I switched from using flies with marabou tails (e.g. wooly buggers) to those with the marabou in the wing. I felt like I would get some short biters who would grab the marabou tail but fail to get hooked. Have any of you had similar experiences?
