Hi,
I have a 1993 25HP Yamaha 2 stroke electric start outboard. Lately, after it's warmed up, it will automatically shut down to an idle when I've got the throttle going full speed or near full speed. Does not happen if I have it open at 1/2 or 3/4. It doesn't shut off, but it's like somebody threw a switch to idle speed. It will open right back up if I give it gas. I look real quick, and have seen the little oil/temp light flicker, then goes out. Has oil injection, and there's always oil gone from the resevoir, and it smokes some when I'm flushing it out. The impeller seems to be working OK, a nice hard stream of water gong out. Had the motor tuned up last winter - A-OK. I'm thinking the sensor may be going bad? Anything else I should be looking at? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a carb issue. I'd check the float and see if it is sticking at all. Does it ever seem to have gas on the water?

Thanks Kirt. Sorry about the slow response. No gas on the water that I've noticed. I'll take a look at the carb though.
