I found a boat that I really like but frankly I don't want the jet drive that it has on its 150 Merc XR-6 Outboard. What could I use for a budget # to swap the lower unit with a prop? Are they readily available and how much work is it. Can I attack it with my home shop or a mechanic required? Thanks

you need to keep in mind that there is about 7 inches difference in height between the two. Options are to remove the transom filler if it has one and remount motor or find a gearcase and a 5 inch spacer and try it, if it cavitates excessively you may need to lower it about 2 inches. Look around for used stuff, there should be some around relatively inexpensive. We have new ones but your looking around 2100.00 with prop. You could change it yourself easily with a few pointers.
