Have a mid 80's honda 10 horse and every time i put the gas line on it floods out and can see gas comming out of the overflow port on the carb. if i unhook the gas it will run fine untill out of gas. then when the gas gets hooked up floods out again in a mater of minutes.

Help please.

Don't know much about Honda outboards, but generically, if you've got gas running out of the carburetor, it sounds like a stuck float and/or valve. It's supposed to shut off when the bowl is full. Sometimes even tapping (lightly) on the carb can free up something if it just got hung up from sitting. TOC Sr.

Check your oil level? I do not understand the relationship, but I had a 4-stroke 1999 Honda 15hp, and while fishing, gas started flowing all over the water. Called the dealer's service dept., and the mechanic said the oil reservoir was too full. Took out some oil, and no more problem. (Since he was implying I was stupid for putting in too much oil, I pointed out they were the ones who serviced the motor).

There isn't any word about if the engine runs after this happens or not so I would look closely at the fuel pump. If it is a older engine this could be the problem. :flowered:

Sounds just like what happened to my friends Merc 4 stroke. You need to replace the pintle valve that is attached to the float. That along with a carb kit and you should be on your way. The pintle valve does not come with the carb kit.
