Does anyone know or have experience with the hydrofoils that bolt on your outboard to get you on plane faster? Do they work? If it makes any difference I have a 15' boat with a 25hp motor. Thanks

I put one on the 18hp motor I have on my 16ft flat bottomed boat. I made all the difference in the world. Before, I had a heck of a time getting up on plane when I was by myself. Now, it pops right up.
If you put one on check it for damage after every trip. If you loose a fin when going fast your boat can flip.

They deffinately improve preformance and add stability.
They also increase presure on the transom.
Make sure your boats transom is structuraly sound and can support the additional stress.

I have a 15ft. Wooden driftboat and run a 15hp. Merc. The hydrofoil really help get the bow down and increase speed! The second one I tried worked far better than the first. There is a prior post about inspection of the unit, this is a must if you are running a light boat.

I have one on my 25 hp motor and it helps to get my 16 foot smokercraft out of the hole, especially at high elevations. I choose the SE Sport Hydrofoil partly because it is more compact and partly for the reason Keta raises.
Codfish...Years ago I put a "Doel-Fin" on my 9.9 Honda with my 13' Smoker. It didn't take long for me to hit a small piece of wood in the Willamette...snapped the cavitation right off! It did help get the boat on plane and increase speed though.
Maybe they've changed the design since then, I don't know, but I sure wouldn't be using the two piece fins on a boat that goes faster than 5mph.

I have heard good things on the stabilzers for the price you really can't go wrong on giving one a try other than having a screw hole or two on the lower end.
