It's been a while since I've flung a fly...I'm heading to Bend this next week and want to try the Crooked River while I'm down there. Any reports or suggestions on fly patterns to try?

Thanks !

The good ol' standby's work well, like Baetis Cripples as well as size 18 Gold Ribbed Hares Ears, Copper Johns, or Pheasant Tails. My personal favorite for floating a dry fly for a mayfly hatch is a parachute pattern like a Parachute Adams or Olive Dun. You may even see a few tan caddis as well.

Good luck! I wish I was going.

I'd fish small dark or grey caddis. Slow water caddis in the back eddies, as well as small black gnats. orange scuds will always catch fish, and small flashback PT's flashback heairs ears, and prince nymphs. Fish the first few miles below the dam, by far the best productive fishing. Don't be affraid to fish up tight to the banks too, there are many fish up shallow, as the water is murky and man fish get overlooked.
Good luck,
GBS

Heard somewhere that wooley buggers were finding some bigger fish.
Do I smell a fall gettogether in the making? Say late Oct. or Nov.? lnf

You will not go wrong with a red or cerise serendipity. An egg pattern almost always catches an inordinate number of fish.

Thanks for the replies! Had a great time in Bend and fly fished for the first time in a couple years. I need to do that more often! I tried the Deschutes one night and got absolutely attacked by Mosquito's

The Crooked was much better in that arena and waaaaay more enjoyable. Caught several gorgeous Trout and soaked in the beauty of the area.

Got the rythem back after whipping off a few Nymph's  Nice to relax and get away from the local combat zoo on the Columbia.

Thanks all
