How is the flyfishing by the mouth can you hike up and find water that is not to deep to use a fly? I have always fished by Mack's canyon and was wondering what the acess was like closer to I-84. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Lots of good fishing within walking distance, just dont expect to have it all to yourself. Some friends of mine hooked several nice steelhead sunday on flies, all close to the park. Fishing should be getting better with all the cool weather, purple seems to be hot right now. Thats all I know.....that and never marry, never.....

by "not too deep to use a fly" don't know what you mean... Just like upstream there's lots of deep water, but plenty of nice drifts that are in the magical 4ish to 8ish feet deep. it will remind you of macks a lot but the canyon opens a bit. if you swing floating line you will find water you like, if you sink nymphs/indicators you will find water you like, so better go :smash:
and if you normally hike down from mack's you will be pleasantly surprised that access is a lot easier at the mouth. hence the crowds though...
i'll be there all this month... aaaaaaahhhhhh...

If you have a mountain bike you can ride 14 miles up the east bank on the old rail grade. The track/ties are long gone and it's basically just a gravel road. Just strap your rod on the center tube of your bike and pedal until you find some water.
