Went out for about three hours on the upper Willie and landed seven with two that looked like this.

The fish were scattered. I tried a clear Tiny Torpedo and other topwater baits but never seem to get any hits. It's always tubes, plugs or spinnerbaits.

Nice photo!!! You did much better than I did yesterday. I couldn't get anything to hit on top either-- perhaps the tempature drop??? I usually have some luck with something that works just under the surface, but saying this I only caught about ten dinks. Why was the water so low yesterday?? Bama

The water didn't seem too much lower. The wind was a pain. I was fishing a diving plug and it fowled on the hook and two bass kept hitting it as I reeled it in on top. I quickly switched to the Torpedo and go nothing. I tried a Rapala and got nothing. I then went back to the Olive Tube and started catching fish again. One of the fish I caught on a Silver Baby Hotlips had a two inch shad falling out of its mouth as I lifted him out of the water. Maybe something like a silver Spot would work??

Whopper Stopper,
Where at on the upper Willie did you fish? I'm in Salem-Keizer and around the Wheatland Ferry and knock them dead with a white spinner bait or pencil bobber and nightcrawler.
Just courious on the location your fishing. Nice pic by the way!!! :applause:

Nice fish Whopper! :applause: As a longtime salmon and steelheader, I've just started bass fishing (first time in my life) I've been three times in the last few weeks, and the guy that is teaching me the ropes uses only plugs. I've been basically using a Bagley's crawdad, and he uses something called a shad wrap. What is a tube?
Do you have any advice for a bass newbie? Something that BiMart would have that I could throw out there (acting like I picked it out myself of course) that is usually a dead bang winner?
All advice appreciated.

Congratulations to your son. A Smallie over 20", regardless of how skinny, is a trophy fish in my book.
