The rowers seat that is in my driftboat now is made of the seatbelt type material and is really loud. Anyone ever replaced the seat or have a fix?

Thanks

Those short tractor seats are sure comfy. The back support is a plus too.

The seat squeaks when I row and I would guess the fish could hear it at times

I used to have the strap type seat and hated it. In the summer it would pinch ny legs while wearing shorts. I replaced it with nylon rope and love it. I don't remember the exact amount but it takes a whole lot of rope to do one.

We had the same thing on our boat. Very loud and annoying. I took off the seat belt stuff and wove some soft nylon rope into the frame. tried to post pictures but the uploader is not working for me. Oh yea, like Byte me said "It takes a whole lot of rope" I can't remember how much either, but 50' to 75' should do it. I think I used 40' and had to space it out so I could cover the whole seat.

I think I may be able to mount something like that on the seat area if I look off all the webbing

I vote for the rope seat

I've got a ol' wood drifter that when built in 68 had a rope seat. It was converted by hav ing the rope/dowels removed and adding piece of plywood screwed over the seating area, followed by the swilvel and plastic seat/backed rowers seat. I really dislike the current set up. I want to convert back to the orignal set up. I still have orignal dowles and see that I need around 40 to 70 feet of 5/8" poly rope. One thing I don't have is the knack to figure out how to apply the set up. I can see in corkie monster's set up from his above post that he may have some kind of screw pull to make and keep is rope seat taught. If anyone would or could describe such a set up or send/post a closer picture of that kind of set up it sure would help this challanged drifter. Thanks for any help.

Cully...use a turnbuckle to join the two ends of the rope together under the seat. Pull the rope as tight as you can when you're lacing it. Start at one front corner, and finish in the far side back corner (or vice-versa). Leave the turnbuckle as wide open as it goes, then tighten it down after you have done the above. I think 5/8" rope is a little large in diameter. I use 1/4" and it takes about 50'.

I think I will try the rope setup. Thanks everyone!

But...now what will I blame not catching fish on?

This is how I did it. The first step is to anchor the rope to the bench. I used the existing bolt and hole that the seat belt material was anchored too.

Then I finished it off with one of these tightener thingy's (can't remember what their called) that was also used on the old seat belt material.

This does require alot of physical labore, got me sweating. You must try to keep the rope as tight as possible as your weaving it. Leave the tightener thingy as open as possible so you have plenty of room to tighten. Once you get it tight, let it sit for a few hours and then retighten. Keep doing this till you get your desired tension. Good Luck and hope you have some Stamina cuase you will need it.

The "tightener thingy" is a turnbuckle
