View Full Version : Pond next to benson lake?

I heard that the pond located west of benson lake on I-84 was stocked with warmwater fish,can anyone confirm this.Would like to catch some crappie.

Yes, I can confirm this, because I have caught some of the warmwater fish that have been transferred to it. Also I have helped transport some of the fish that were planted in it. All in accordence with permits obtained through the Department of Fish & Wildlife.

I belong to the OBPC which built the fishing access docks that exist on the lake. The lake was drained and we built the docks. Then added structure throught the lake. It was refilled and stocked with warmwater species. Wakeena used to be it's name and that name came from the name of the creek.

It has an officially recognized new name now.

Just about any of the ponds that line I-84 have warmwater fish in them. Lots of bass, walleye and the ever popular carp. Most of them have culverts that connect with the Columbia River and fish move in and out. There is a good spot up between Hood River and The Dalles, called Meyer Park. Lots of space along the bank and lots of water to fish. Mosquitoes can get thick, so take some deet repellant. Good Fishing.
