Hey Ifishers! Last year my family and I camped on the john day river @ the service creek campground. We had a great time and caught tons of fish. What I want to know is there any other campgrounds near that area (withen an hour or so) that have lots of bank access and camping?? Another Question , I have a 12ft aluminimum(SP) V-hull fishing boat.Has anyone ran the lower river in that kind of boat?? Is it safe or can I even do it. I wont have the motor just the boat and oars.
Thanks in advance for any help!!!

The only part I know of the John Day that you could run that boat in is from I - 84 up and you'd have to be VERY careful because of the wind and waves. On a calm day you'd be fine...on a windy day you'd be............not so fine. On a good note the area right around the launch at LaPage park has some pretty good bass fishin'.

Yes, guys do it all the time in RV's, but I think you can tent camp too.

You can camp at the Priest Hole just before Mitchell. Good bank fishing and Camping, no utilities though. Anyone been fishing over there lately? Any luck? Using what? Thanks.

If the campground is full, we choose to stay in the parking lot. No dust, no dirt and you are very close to the launch and docks. $ 10.
