Not only do smallies fight harder, they taste better.

Smallies are NUTZ! Bigmouths have the size, though. Easy pick, smallmouth!

I'm proudest of my biggest largemouth, but I love the fight the smallies can give you.

Coming from a largely Largemouth community, it is pretty much accepted that the SMs fight the best! I tell ya, is I get a fish of either variety over 5lb, I am happy

My pick for sure would be the smallie!! Largemouth are very fun to catch, and are typically bigger. Inch for inch smallies are tops on my list!

I always tell folks that I'd rather fish for Largemouth, but would rather catch Smallmouth. Why? The Smallie fights like it's the biggest darned fish in the lake, but I prefer shallow fishing, casting to visible targets, that is the Largemouth's habitat. C&R, Steve

I hate fishing plastics talk about boreing.. If i can go flipping with a jig ot tossing a spinnerbat, crankbait or a top water i am happy catching both. too often smallies gotta be fished deep with plastics and to be honest i'd rather go do something else.. so for me largemouth get it in spite of smallies fighting harder

Smallmouth are a better fight but greenies are more fun to fish for. Nothing quite compares to a 5-8 lb pig largemouth blowing up on a buzzbait.

Caught smallmouths, spots, and buckets...I can never get enough of those 3+ smallies tugging at my line. Largemouths are fun to catch because of their explosive hits on buzzbaits and other top water baits, but I personally have more fun busting smallmouths with 4" soft jerk baits fished above shallow rocks. They sure are all business when they hit those things !!!
Truthfully speaking, however, if any of you guys ever get a chance to go after any stripers-- jees those are the hardest fighting fresh water fishes of all.
Just my two cents worth, Bama

When I was younger my dad and I would troll for smallmoutth below Wilson Dam, aka Pickwick Lake, in Bama. In those days, 1993ish, 7lb smallmouths were pretty regular while trolling and 8 pounders were caught once in a while. But, we would be trolling along every once in a while and BAM a big striper would just nail the lure. I remember watching my dad fight a 20lb striper for about ten minutes while he spent most of this time on his kness with the rod being pulled under the boat!!! You almost want to cry Mercy.

Hello Bamaboy ,
I noticed that this is your 4-th, post . It is an old tradition to post a first time story about a fishing story and telling every one a little about yourself , so that everyone can welcome you to the board . I hope that i didn't miss your story . I look forward to reading it soon .
I fished once for stripers ,but never hooked any . I would like to try it again sometime . :jester:  :yay:  :angel1:

Smallies on light tackle are the best. A light spinning rod, 4# test line and a Panther Martin spinner and I am in heaven. With this rig, a dink is even king. When you get a bigger one, you know you have been in a knock down fight.
But then.......A JitterBug on the surface, just as the sun comes sliding up and the explosion of a Largemouth knocking that plug into the air. WOW! Your body will shake for fifteen minutes after that.
Hard to decide, but as long as it is a bass, that is all that counts for me.
