As any good golfer knows, one must have more than one club in their arsenal to play. Fishing is no different! I enjoy fishing with tubes, jigs, dropshotting, and a few cranks but have always wanted to try topwater tactics! Any suggestions? Thanks.

This time of year I always have a buzzbait handy. Works great at night, and sometimes during the day. My alltime favorite topwater is a hula popper, and a spook is fun too.

Daytime...Clear Baby Torpedo and something that sbasser tot me...Fat @** Tube walked like a zara spook. If the bass don't blow up on it on top, allow it to slowly sink.
Nightime...black jitterbug during a full moon; you can often see the wake as the bass approaches...booga, booga.

I like buzzbaits too for the largemouth. Around lily pads (not many around here) use a Bill Norman Weedwalker or frog, fake or live (if legal).

For both smallies and largemouth it is hard to beat a floating Rapala on a calm morning. As with the hula popper it is important to let the lure rest after casting and let the rings dissapear. Then twitch once and get ready.

Rog, please email me about your results with this idea. When I tried it, and saw what it would do, I knew it would work, but that was just a few casts. Haven't tried it since! Need more time.....looks like Dipsnort and I will venture out Monday, after work. Maybe then...thanks for jogging my memory! :smash: C&R, Steve

I love topwater , it's by far my favorite kind of bass fishing.

My favorites are

the rebel Pop-R , cast it out and let it sit until all the rings dissapear then work it back slooow pop........ pop.......pop BOOM!!!

I realy like the rapala skitter pop you can work it real slow or walk it like a spook.

also like the 3" spook in darker colors.

I also have a heddon hi-tail (looks like a whale with the tail in the air) that works real well.

I live for overcast days with a little bit of wind blowing.

Thank you for the input! I have wondered about the "phloating-phat-tube" and honestly have been waiting for the warmer weather to try it, oh and maybe a "fluke" as well. Hula poppers I fished when I was a kid and had success. It's the hard plastic baits where I get confused. So many to choose from. I will try the "mirage" colors as I've heard of them before. Something about motion and sound with a splash of sparkle thrown in. Thanks again. Now ...quit sitting at the computer and go fish! ( at this rate, I'm going to need TWO caddies!...or a bigger boat)
