View Full Version : Questions on bass fishing the John Day River
I am going over East to BANK fish for Bass on the John Day,6/26/04. Fished it once before with rooster tails and caught bass,But was wondering what else might work from the bank, oh, I forgot to say I know nothing about bass fishing at all and will be fishing it from the bank, any help on what to use and how to use it will get you a big thank you.
Thanks

I was there yesterday, drifting for 4 days. If you want #'s fish a 2" - 3" dark colored (dark green, brown, purple...) grub on a 1/8 oz jig head. For larger fish just upgrade to a 5" grub on the same jig. Invest in a Pop-R, Skitter Pop, or other popper (it really doesn't matter) in a natural color for a cool top water bite!!!
HAVE FUN!!

I am not familiar with the John Day, but if the bottom is relativly snag-free, you may have luck with a dropshot rig using a 3" Senko(watermelon color has been good) and a 3/8oz weight.
Other than that, the jig suggestion is a winner and a rooster tail should produce some fish as well.

Fished there two days ago and had the most fun with a small spinner bait. For size, I dredged the deeper holes with a carolina-rigged 6" lizard; numbers=wacky-rigged 5" senko.
For an explination of these terms and a good resource of tactics, read this:
