If you are going camping or fishing at Crane Prairie or Wickiup keep your valuables locked up and out of site. I just got back from a club tournament this weekend and our club and two other clubs had rods, purses, ice chest, ect. stolen. This has happened the last two weekends on Friday night. Be on the lookout for anything that looks suspicious.

Which campground? The one by the lodge at crane or rock creek?

I tell you what, when someone gets into another man's stuff, that someone is taking his or her life into their own hands. I had a fool steal a 2 liter Mt. Dew out of my cooler, and I had already sipped on it. Not only is that gross and crass, but how do I know he'll stop there? How do I know he won't take my pick-up, or my family, etc. Oregon, Washington, and Idaho are all concealed carry states. You would think people would consider that before stealing an outdoorsman's stuff. Let's just say when it comes to this sport, I am not "catch & release".

Heck, you don't even need a CCW to carry to/from/at your campsite(at least in OR). That, plus the # of regular concealed carry folk...well, I certainly agree with Pale Rider....some folks are certainly living on the edge for that bag of beef jerky...

It is a shame to see folks ripped off, especially in the great outdoors where many of us go to get AWAY from all of that!

The thefts happened at the forest service campground by the lodge. I think it is more than 1 person because to many people were hit in a big campground. The local Sheriffs dept. is aware of the problem. I think someone should set up a sting to catch them. There is another tournament this weekend. :smash:

Sounds like local teens looking for beer or munchies to go with their pot. We have about the same problem at Banks Lk. One of the wives chased off a few of 'em about 2am. Good thing she didn't catch them, they'd have been battered children. Shooting them probably isn't the right thing to do (too much paperwork, temporary loss of pistola, plus you have to justify it as self defense), but there are some ways to detain them while the police come that will make them very miserable. Just don't let CNN get pictures..... :smash: C&R, Steve

There are places everywhere that tempt those who walk the line, anywhere there are fisher folks and boat ramps! P[robably bored and looking for a rush or a good deal on tackle. The Forks at the East Fork and North Fork of the Lewis by Woodland, the Kalama as you enter the canyon, the Cowlitz has had a few but usually where you leave the rig behind with back up gear. It's sad but true. A sting in areas where break ins are a problem sounds good. Did you know that a baseball bat placed with many foot pounds of torque at say, the back, shoulders, head and knees will make a lasting impression...and when you are finished, you simply grind the stick into dust! No report. No code. It's sad to think along those lines but getting ripped off is not funny. We all need to watch out for the other guy, good and bad alike. my 2 cents.

Jeez, it sounds like they'll be veggies drawing welfare checks when you're done. Tempting, but I'd rather just give them some painful hours of hoping for the Police to come, soon! Back 'em up to a tree or pole, duct tape their hands behind them. Make them kneel, duct tape their ankles behind them. Can't get up. Hopefully, they'll be kneeling on gravel or concrete. Tape over their mouth and eyes. Throw cold water on them, a bucketful at a time. Unless it's hot, then make it hot water. After you cleaned a fish in it. Then, the police arrive, and you rip the duct tape off.....yikes! Don't PO a Geezer! :smash: C&R, Steve

We stayed in the resort campground on Saturday and heard about the break ins. Camped next to some UVB guys in a red sled boat(how they managed to get up on Sunday is beyond me!!  )

I did see a whole bunch of law enforcement in the area on Saturday afternoon/evening.

I used to live in Bend. I fished at Craine Prairie alot. In 1986, (before the forest service campground had been built), at the resort campground I chained my 14 foot Valco Aluminum boat to a tree while I drove to bend to have my broken trailer welded. Came back the next day only to find that someone used a bolt cutter and broke the chain and stole the boat. This was after I had asked Pat Schatz, lease holder of the resort, to keep an eye on the boat for me.

Up to that point, I had brought alot of friends to the lake and brought alot of business to the resort area. I still fish at craine Prairie from time to time and although I cannot hold Pat responsible for the loss of the boat, I have never again bought one single item at the resort.

I called the police hoping they would come and look around or investigate or something. What a laugh. They told me that this sort of thing happens alot. Today I look back and realize where they were coming from with regard to not being able to do anything. But at the time, my boat was my most prized wordly possession and it ment the world to me. I was crushed.

What sbasser suggest be done with anyone caught thieving is way too nice a way to treat them. :noway:

Before leaving your rig and boat trailer, scatter a few shell casings on the ground along with the contents of some ketchup packs. Leave a note on the windshield which reads, "Tiny, I winged one and he crawled off into the brush. Gone for more ammo. Be back soon."

That's the best one I heard yet. Last year I was camping at the forest camp when some campers had some motors stolen right of their boats. Thats why I keep the boat in camp with the motors next to the tent door next to my FIRE POWER.................>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
