There is some good smallmouth fishing at Molalla River State Park. You could drive south on I-5, then cut east at the Aurora exit, follow the Canby Ferry signs to the park. Up river from the boat launch has some bank access. You could also take the Canby ferry from West Linn to end up at the same place.
I've seen the kids come back to the parking lot with 2-3 pounders.
Its 15-20 minutes from L.O.

Thanks guys! I am really looking forward to some good fishing as soon as I am done with my current software project (July 1). I am relatively new to the area but have had a chance to do at least a little fishing along the WR and CR. I am a bit more used to fishing for LMB in lakes, being originally from AR, but I have always dug the tenacity of the smallies and am sure I will adapt pretty quickly!

I absolutely love it up here and look forward some fantastic fishing! Thanks again for helping me out!

Welcome to the Board.

Mary S. Young State Park on the Willamette about 5 minutes south of L.O. is a place to fish the river from the bank. When possible try to get across the cannal at the north end of the beach. There is a lagoon on the other side of the cannal that offers some pretty fair bank fishing.

George Rodgers park also offers some fishing to be had. That park is in L.O. Walk down to where the creek coming out of the Lake meets the Willamette.

Your absolute best bet though, is to meet someone who has access to the lake itself and will allow you to fish from their property. Or take you fishing on the lake with a boat. If such opportunity presents itself, get your drop shot rig back together and FISH ON!!

If you would like to go fishing on the River from a boat send me a pm.

I was thinking of buying one of those pontoon 1-man boats for drifting.. Thoughts? I just really cannot afford a real boat/trailor at this time... There is nothing like being out on the water!
