Try Lima Beans, Green Beans, Corn Niblets, Cherry Tomato or Peas. Carp are vegetarians. Cast the bait and let it sit. I think a green 3" Senko would be worth a shot. Just remember to let it sit. Veggies don't crawl, swim, or hop. I'd use a circle hook, like the Gamakatsu Octopus Circle. C&R, Steve

Believe it or not I used to catch big carp on a small jerk bait minnow. Just cast it out make small ripples on the water and they would blast it on top. When you hook one you know you have a fish on.

Shalom,

I'll be in your area until the 8th, so your meeting isn't going to help but thanks for letting me know. I used to work in Milwaukie before I moved to the Pocatello area. If you know what kind of a facility they have across the creek on the corner of Ochoco and McBrod then you know where I worked. A good place to learn about people.

Tovex, Chlorox or Rotenone works well.

Carp are good to eat if they are caught in clean, cool water.

I used to have a boathouse on the columbia, and we would fish for sqwafish with chicken liver, and the freid chicken skin( kfc works better than albertson deli!) and we would catch alot of big carp too, just make sure its not sitting on the bottom, carp will eat anything smelly, cheese, hotdogs, worms, pautzkee eggs, powerbait, tuna balls, you get the point. Ive never tried salad (tomatoes etc.. )but i would imagine it would work if the water wasnt to muddy, and the could see it since it doesnt stink that bad.
But freid chicken skin was my altime favorite, caught some mean ones (15-20 lbs) on that and chicken liver too.

I've caught 'em bouncing a worm along the bottom of the Willamette. Pretty darn fun on light tackle.

Powerbait crappie nibbles. Fish them on the bottom

If you come across carp feeding on the bottom a chunk of night crawler on a small hook cant be beat. This is total stealth fishing. Cast the worm with no wieght in front of the carp. Keep the bail openon your reel and wait. When the carp picks it up your line will start moving, let it swim a couple feet then stick him hard.

I got into a school of feeding carp on Saturday night. I ended up hooking 2 on 4lb test, They didnt last long befor they broke me off.

Soak corn in molasses. Killer carp bait. They like sweet stuff.

ah...and who can blame them?

They'd probably like beer, too, but how to keep it on the hook? How to get it close enough to the hook! C&R, Steve

Hey sbasser,

I like this beer theory, do you think soaking a treble hook in my mouth full of beer is a good way to keep the scent on there?

Mmmmmmm carp... Mmmmmmm

here are a couple of my favorite carp getters...

1. corn meal and peanut butter (mixed and rolled into balls)

2. superglue some dogfood to a hook (works great!)

3. marshmellows,cornmeal & strawberry jello mix

melt some marshmellows in a pan add the strawberry jello packet then keep adding cornmeal until its real thick

enjoy!!

I'm with sailor... I've always used worm and bobber and knocked them dead in the backwaters. Even seen them frequently take the little green and white crappie jigs while fishing for perch and cats.

I got 2 big carp yesterday on my flyrod. Black stonefly nymph with rubber legs was the ticket. Fished slow (like dead on the bottom). I'll post pics once Pez sends them to me.

catch? heck when i was younger my uncle who was a sherrifs deputy brought me out with my cousin and some of his buddys from the dept out to arlington carp shooting. we sat on a high bluff drinking root beer and shot them on the surface with .22's and .223's. we could shoot 50-60 a day and it was all perfectly legal. i dont know if it still is, but what a hoot! the more dead carp the better! these things are as bad for the native fisheries as are the bass and walleye eating smolts! their numbers must be reduced or many bodies of water will suffer the same fate as crane prarie res. that used to be a world class trout fishery and now the bass are eating themselves now that they ate mosat of the trout. kill carp! kill carp!

Could it be that the lake is getting shallower and shallower over the years so the trout don't have as great of living area?? Beside the bass having tasty treats.

Okay this is what i know carp LLOOOVVVEE corn i have killed them on it. I know in the Columbia at the Port of Kalama you can see them getting set for the spawn so they won't bite well. They eat stuff in the weeds on the top of the water bugs I or what it is I don't know? Good luck

Some indonesian and oriental folks asked for them. I'm sure they know how to prepare them for the table. I have never eaten one and do not intend to any time soon.
