Just returned from being at the big D from Mon PM until today. We camped at TC and floated from WS to TC Wed, Thu, Fri and Sat. We got fish during all times of the day. Mornings we worked nymphs and did well on PT's, hares ears and rock worms. at about 11:00 AM til about 3:30 PM it was all Salmon Flies. Just about anywhere we casted - riffles, under trees, in the middle of slow water - slam! Evenings were spent nymphing and using caddis emergers - more slamming.

Here are some highlights:

*Dad got a 27" red - a little dark, but fat - right at TC
*Got my uncle and two cousins into their first Deschutes fish while fly fishing.
*Trailer door didn't latch well in the morning - severe wind on Wed torqued the door and I need a new one
*My arm is still aching from fighting fish
*I had the hot salmon fly pattern - unfortunately, I only had one. The fly is totally thrashed - it's the one my cousing caught is first fish on a dry on. I think I'll send it to him for posterity.
*Met some decent guys in a red DB with a Coors Silver Bullet logo on it. I'm not a coors fan, but I won't hold that against them. BTW - if any of you guys read this, sorry I at all the pizza!

We got rained on Tues and Wed. Overcast most of the week. Weather was tolerable for us valley dwellers.

Salmon flies have about another week then it's on to caddises!!

Good luck to you guys going next weekend! And say hi to that 20-incher in the Dry Creek hole that took my pheasant tail and didn't give it back!

We had a great trip as well with the same results. We did really well during the day with big drys and the nymphing was pretty good as well. caddis emergers and hares ears were the hot ticket for us. Sorry we missed you o.r.s. I should have asked what boat you were in. I dont know if you saw us but we were camped at the next camp below grassy camp. Hopefully next time we can hook up and swap lies.

we were camped next to the first set of <petunia> houses - with the big travel trailer and small blue pickup. Sorry we missed each other as well. We had a great week.

Salmon flies were about a size 4 or 6. Most nymphs we used were size 14 and smaller - mostly 16 and 18.
