Well I just picked up a rod and reel combo at a garage sale down the street. It was 40$ so I couldnt pass it up its a Scientific angler 5/6 weight rod with a 58 SA reel. The guy bought it and only used it once. He said he paid $140 for it. I was just wondering if anybody knew what it actually was and how much its really worth. The rod doesnt have any other markings or numbers on it. Thanks in advance.

I agree with Stew you did just fine.. One thing is thoug.. if the reel has a line on it it's probably best to toss it.. Take the rod to a fly shop and cast a few different quality lines on it..
Rod and reel beginner packages have two notorious problems
1. the lines they put in them are garbage
2. the rods are usually too heavy for their desighanted line weight..

I bought the same rod at an auction - 4 pc travel rod, 6 wt., same reel with line and a case. I gave the reel to one of my boys. The rod is a little stiff, but to me it makes a great nymphing rod. I throw a WF Cortland 555 with it, strung on a Ross Cimmaron C3. This set up is ideal for me for the big D, especially when the wind picks up and I'm throwing stone nymphs.

Welp it sounds like I did in fact get my moneys worth. Thanks guys. The person who sold this too me gave me the usual sob story about how a friend was supposto take him fishing and it never happened. :hoboy: So he took it out once and caught 2 trees in 2 casts. You get the picture. So first thing when I get home I strip some line out and make a few false casts and realized pretty quick that he had the WF line on backwards... no wonder he couldn’t cast very well with it. :jester: I have yet to try it out on the water but hopefully Ill have some pics soon to come. Thanks again..
