Ok, I am headed up to the Clack tomorrow to do a little fishing. Want to get away from the people chasing steal, and just relax and try to fish for some trout. Now I have never been up to the clack, but would love some directions on where I should stop to do some trout fishing. You dont have to give me honey holes, just location where the crowds will thin. Also what fly patterns should I have in my box?
Appreciate it in advance.

not alot of good trout in the clack. Mostly steelies & salmon. there are trout, but no trophies. Would bring steelhead gear and hike around McKiver Park.

Zug is right. Trout fishin' is a little slim on the clack. It can be decent on caddis patterns when it gets warm. But nothing outrageous. The Oak Grove Fork has trout, and solitude. No limit on the brookies that can be taken. Standard flies. 14# and 16# caddis w/ a 16# or 18# PT or some such nymph trailing.
Caution: lots o' dinks in this river. If you go w/ the smaller patterns, you will catch allotta little fish. I usually go bigger so that they cannot get the hook in their dainty little yappers.
If you want real solitude, hike into the Roaring River gorge. Big blowdown area up from the campground that can be sketchy to get around, but it holds enuff trout to make it worth the hike. And solitude to spare.
