Sure. I'm in. The Winter Steelhead Fly Swap was great.

I submitted a summer pattern for the winter fly swap. Does that mean I get to submit a winter pattern for the summer fly swap?

Hey,
I haven't participated in any of the fly swaps yet, but I think that this is the first one that I will participate in. Does it matter what type of fly you swap?? How many flies do I need to tie up?? PM me with some more info and where I can send my flies to.

As long as it is a steelhead fly I guess  We usually try to get a dozen people to participate.

I'd like in on that... I have a pattern you'll love..

Dudley Nelson fishes the Skeena with a fly pattern called the Skeena Skeeter but he has an improved pattern
and I tied some up last night. It took three or four tries before I got it right. It is a surface fly that uses foam.
It skids across the surface and make a huge Vee. I watched it work last year on the Deshutes. The belly has either
chartruse or red on the underside.

So what are the rules to this swap...?? :yay:

I need to tie that Skeena fly before the middle of July. I will be crossing the Skeena the first week of August on the Cassiar Highway. Please post a photo or a recipe.

Here you go Tillamook...

The wings are Moose Hair. Red and Green are the two main colors but I don't see why Purple, Yellow or whatever
wouldn't work as well. These are Steelhead Dry flies and you got to see them work. Side cast them just like a Green
Butt and watch it cut a Veee on the water. What a steelie hits it's will scare the hell out of you. I seen it work on
the Deschutes last year. Dudley Nelson and I fished the Lower D. He was right below me when it happened.
He lost the fish but the take was spectacular. Of course I hooked and lost one on a Green Butt right after but
these flies are kinda different. After I tied these up last night I toss one on the swimming pool. I believe it
would work well for Large Mouth. We will soon find out. Makes a lot of comotion on the survace. I would cast it far and
reel it in with the fly reel. I can't see how a bass could turn it down. Dudley has a theory that trout might hit it
too during the Salmon fly hatch. It looks like a Salmon fly skimming across the water. But I would tie it up
in another color. The Hackle on the thorax is moose hair but Buck tail will work. I plan to try some different
colors there also..

Oh yeah ! Foam Tubing, Moose hair and Thin Yarn in all different colors.

I bet you won't find anyone else using them on the Deschutes. Better have plenty on hand because the Moose hair
is delicate. They might work twice but I doubt it. Dudley tells me that the original Skeena Skeeters that they tie
up there aren't quite as nice as these are. Dudley has a tape of his fishing trips on the Copper river and
the fish are huge. They get Three or four Steelhead apiece each day in the 19 to 22 # class. I seen the tape.

So what are the rules to this fly swap ?? How does it work ??

OK, count me in too. I've got several of my own patterns that work or I can do a traditional. Are we looking for "purty" flies or fish catchers?

You can tie whatever you want as long as it is a steelhead fly.

I've been a little short on time lately, so I'm going to sit this one out- but having participated in the last two, let me urge some of you other guys to jump in. Getting that little package in the mail with all those excellent flies is very cool  I look forward to lurking on this swap.

Outstanding Russ! Sorry to hear about your employment situation though.
For you guys that are not familiar with Russ he is one of the finest tyers I've ever seen. I have some of his spey flys and don't want to use them they are so nice.

Wow sounds like I am out of my league here I am still in but I just want to warn everyone they may not be pretty or tied perfect but they will hold together and steelies love my marabou flies. I am thinking of doing a Marabou fly that’s color imitates a crawdad Dark red and Black with a little crystal flash and if I get my hands on some tungson beads I will make them with a bead head rp
