Minutes ago, off the boat tied to my deck, I hauled in a fatty 36 incher after a crazy fight.

Val took a photo of me with the fish and the fly rod, which I'll post as soon as she gets the film developed (this was only photo 3 of 24 so we have to wait for a while). The batteries were dead in the digital and I didn't want to keep the fish out of water long.

Two things come to mind... The heavier the sinking line, the better. Its very hard to get the line to rest on the bottom in 27' of water. A shock leader is probably not a bad idea (Dacron or wire).

mark, Well done! :applause: we'll be fishing in 6-15' of water likely, but good to know they can be caught in deeper. Thanks for the pre-gator test. Of course now if we don't catch any, you'll make us all look bad..
you can still join us if you'd like, we need a veteran
along with us.

Blue Tip Spinner,
I'd like to say I caught the fish with a clean fly, but I can't. I tipped the hook with smelt.

GBS,
Look for a PM.

Nice and congrats. Most I've heard were caught on scented flies. But most of the areas that have sturgeon where I fish for them are at lowest 40' deep. Wish we had some lower flats to fish for them. Would possibly think about it. But, too hard up here.
