I have been reading some of the posts, I have to tell you, I am amazed and the knowledge the we have in the forum. I thought I was really starting to learn about fly fishing. Now I read some of the posts and know I am so far behind in this sport. Thank you to all of you who share your knowledge with those of us who don't know much.
sincerely,
Bob

no sweat. There's so much to flyfishing, and yes, there are some very good. knowlegable folks here. It's great to learn new things, and even for those who have many years under their belts, there are always some fresh ideas. That's what makes flyfishing so enjoyable. The journey along the way.
Enjoy every minute of it.

Thanks for the comments.

Fly fishing is a daily learned sport. Every day you can learn something new if you just watch what is happening around you.

Great people here
I started flyfishing on the Metolious at Bridge 99 in about '58. One side was bait and upstream was fly only so when there wasn't room to fish on the bait side I would get my fly pole and have miles upstream to fish in near solitude. Those learning days taught me; like how fast you get an 'ice cream' headache if you go under in the Met.Cold.

Can someone tell me what is the 'thing' about "raising" the rod handle at the end of your cast? Wasn't it so the fly would land softly and not slap? Tech aspects of flyfishing seem to go over my head while I look over current in a stream I'm about to fish. There is always something to learn.
PS
Does anyone here remember Walt's Sporting goods Store in downtown Lebanon from the '60s. What a guy, he used to let us handle the guns IF we asked first. He put us onto fishing for chubs(squawfish) with minnows(snagged by pinching Wonder bread to a treble hook shank)then sent 100 yrds out under the overhanging blackberries in the Lebanon canal( 'B' street bridge) some went 20"plus and fertilized the corn I planted over them.aaahh those were the days.
