What is your fave? Currently, I would have to say mine is Lord I Lift Your Name On High . The music is good but the words tell it all!
Lord I Lift Your Name On High
Words and Music: Rick Founds
Lord I lift your name on high
Lord I love to sing your praises
I'm so glad You are in my life
I'm so glad You came to save us
You came from heaven to earth
To show the way
From the earth to the cross
My debt to pay
From the cross to the grave
From the grave to the sky
Lord I lift Your name on high
Lord I lift your name on high
Lord I love to sing your praises
I'm so glad You are in my life
I'm so glad You came to save us
You came from heaven to earth
To show the way
From the earth to the cross
My debt to pay
From the cross to the grave
From the grave to the sky
Lord I lift Your name on high
You came from heaven to earth
To show the way
From the earth to the cross
My debt to pay
From the cross to the grave
From the grave to the sky
Lord I lift Your name on high
I found a website that has the words to all the popular gospel songs and hymns. Because I can't include it here (rules) I will say find it by typing in the title of the above song on google. The first reference will take you there-its great, I am listening to the music right now as that website is opened in another window.
If I am misinterpeting the rules would a moderator please let me know and I will edit this post.Jenny you with your music background should love this sight. Thanks enjoy! Jim
PS Okay I am waffling and it's only 15minutes later but I read and listened to other faves As the Deer and You are My All in All. I love having that window open so I can listen while typing away its so relaxing!

Holy smokes!! What a question. I lead a praise band for our church. The is not an all-inclusive list, but here are some I really enjoy playing and singing:
Give Us Clean Hands
God of Wonders
I Know He's Comin' for me (one I wrote - here's a link to a fairly poor quality video of the song: Praise Song (http://www.christthevinelutheran.com/ctv%20Praise.WMV) (I'm the dude with the receding hairline, playing acoustic guitar)
We also do a fun medley, combining Every Move I Make and Lord I Lift Your Name on High
Above All
Amazing Love (You Are My King)
There are many others, but these are some I really enjoy and find inspiring.
Letsfish - I have tons of web site links for hyms, worship music, MIDI files, etc. I you'd like more info, let me know and I'll shoot them over to you.

Worship songs change as new ones come along. Many have been outstanding. Many of the hymns have endured for much longer. I particularly enjoy contemporary arrangements of some of the Hymns
Hymns: On Christ the Solid Rock I stand, My Jesus I love Thee, many others
Worship Choruses: My Soul Proclaims, How lovely is Your dwelling place (You fill my soul), I exalt Thee, I'm Trading my Sorrows, Ancient of Days, Turn my Heart oh Lord
There are so many songs today that have a spin on the presentation but there is one that brings a tear to my eye everytime i hear it no matter who sings it:
ABOVE ALL

My favorite hymn is "How Firm a Foundation"
I also like as a solo song "The Lord is My Shepherd" by the late Keith Green and "Jesus is the Cornerstone"

Keith Green - now there's man with a musical legacy. What an awsome mitistry he had. I remember going to see him and Matthew Ward with 2nd Chapter of Acts (yes, I'm dating myself a bit). Wow! Talk about talent and inspiration.

Southern Gospel and all the oldies. IMHO alot, but not all of the new songs now days are not well written musicly and when they are played in church there is no melody to them and you can't tell what song it is by the music being played. They would make the old masters of song writing roll over in their grave. In my humble opinion.

As a worship leader for the past 10 years, and a church musician for, well a long time, I'd have to say that my favorite hymns or songs really depends on me. I find that each week I have a new favorite batch, it just depends on where I am in my work, walk, and personal worship life. I love having a variety to cling to.
Some melodies are timeless--Amazing Grace, Rock of Ages, The Old Rugged Cross, I Love You Lord, O Lord, You're Beautiful, etc. "I Can Only Imagine" really causes me to pause and think about that day when I meet our Lord face to face.
"Trading My Sorrows" is a song that I'll never loose, because of a powerful incident in my life. Because of my paid job, I had to respond out to the scene of a fatality traffic accident. One of the vehicles was overturned, and a bible fell out onto the ground. I picked it up and opened it. The bible fell open to the bulletin and song sheet from the service earlier that day. The first song was "Trading My Sorrows". It brought me joy in this tragedy to know that the person, who had sang that song earlier in the day, had indeed, traded their sorrows and laid them down for the joy of the Lord.
Knowing that our earthly praises are limited by man's weaknesses, one can only wonder what the praises will be like that we sing in Heaven--now that'll be worship music!

Several, for several different reasons...
Like Jetty Nut, being a church musician, whatever you are doing that week becomes a favorite.
Some of my very favs...
All time: They will know we are Christians by our Love...
Favorite, because My Mother used this, during her battle with cancer: "God will take care of you."
Favorite because it's been going through my head for the past three days, "Love lifted Me!"
Favorite because I like to play it in different styles, "How Great Thou Art."
Favorite, because I get such a kick out of God' world, "This is My Father's World." That one always brings a smile, and I sing it a lot on the river.
"Our God is an Awesome God" Because... well, he is!
One I wrote, that I'll always like, because it helped me through hard times:
I was cold, and alone, and I wanted it to end.
Bitter tears welled up in my soul,
But I turned to Him instead, and I heard,
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything,
With prayer and petition, with Thanksgiving,
Present your request to God."
But it would be so easy, I could see,
To turn to man for comfort and not He.
A ringing telephone on the wall,
I turn to him and to my knees I fall, and I hear,
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything,
With prayer and petition, with Thanksgiving,
Present your request to God."
I thank you Father, that I'm not alone
I thank you that you are always around.
I know you suffered even more than me.
I feel your comfort as I crawl upon your knees, and I'll try...
Not to be anxious,
About anything but in everything,
By prayer and petition, with Thanksgiving,
I'll present my request... to God.
I cannot believe I had the wits about me to sing that at my Mother's funeral! Right after my divorce, things were stressful!
There was a time, though, when I wrote that song, that I learned never to be anxious, and instead, go to prayer. I still think of that, now... when I am feeling that things are going crazy! I just want to worry and stress, but I know I should pray, and rest in Him, instead.
Lessee... what others? There are so many!
OK, now that "Love Lifted Me!" I'm off to the river!

"Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art" are, IMHO, simply the two most beautiful powerful songs of all time. Every time I hear them, I get the tingles cuz they're so absolutely perfect. Good thread; I'll be putzing around the rest of the night with these in my head. Thanks!
