"Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord."
That was the message given to the shepherds by an angel on the first Christmas.
A Savior. We all need a Savior. There isn't one person on this earth that hasn't done something wrong. And there is no way to pay for our sins on our own. It's not humanly possible. That's why we need Jesus, the Lord. He was God in the flesh and he paid for our shortcomings with His life on the cross. He made the way.
But it's up to us to open the gift He has given us. The gift is "for all the people". No matter how holy a life or how filthy, He loves us with the same incomprehensible and unending love, and all we have to do is accept His gift.
To believe in our heart and confess with our mouth that He is Lord and Savior, giving Him our life so that He can give it back, that's how we can open the gift of Christmas.
